A number of Licensed Tour Operators run abseiling sessions on Mount Buffalo. See the Tours & Adventures page for more information.
Locations
There is amazing climbing at crags across the whole plateau so finding a private cliff for your group is possible if you hike out to one of the more isolated sites.
The most popular climbing areas are the Hump and Cathedral, Gorge area, Horn and environs, Castle, Dreamworld, Isotope Wall etc. The guidebooks provide details of the climbing areas and climbs.
Climbs for beginners can be found at Catani slabs and some of the shorter single pitch climbs near the hanglider lookout, also at the Monolith area.
Longer multi pitch climbs and aid climbing is to be found on the world class North Wall of the gorge.
Climbs
There are hundreds of established rock climbs at Mount Buffalo, with challenges for the intermediate to advanced climber. There are iconic multi pitch routes, challenging aid climbing and overall a larger number of climbs with amazing variety of styles than other Australian granite climbing areas.
Accessing Climbing Areas
Please use established tracks to access climbing areas and climbs to avoid damage to fragile sub-alpine vegetation and soil.
Climbing Season
The climbing season is normally from October to May with early starts the go in the hotter months. Some winter aid climbing is possible on the North Wall and there is limited ice and mixed climbing at the China Wall and Hump when we have a very cold winter.
