Remote Campsites
At 1400m+ altitude, Mount Buffalo's Rocky Point and Mount McLeod campsites are two of the best and most memorable National Park remote walk-in campsites in Australia.
Available for a limited number of hikers at a time (12) all year round, these are minimal impact camping sites designed for fuel stove use only. They have pit toilets but no other facilities. Remote camping is possible for a maximum of two nights only with a permit issued from the Parks Victoria Rangers.

- Mount McLeod Camping Area is accessible along the Mt McLeod track, located approximately 8km from the Reservoir Picnic area.
- Rocky Creek Camping Area is accessible along the Rocky Creek track, located approximately 6.5 km from the Reservoir Picnic Area. This camping area was closed during 2020 for bushfire recovery but has now re-opened.
The Reservoir Road is normally open October through to the end of May.
Winter snow camping
Both campsites are available for remote snow camping during winter but the Reservoir Road is closed at the Mount Buffalo Road in the snow season, so campers need to park near the snow clearing station and either cross-country ski or snow-shoe out to the camp sites.
